A Lifetime of Smiles Starts with a Good Foundation
Your child’s first dental visit is more than just a checkup. It’s the beginning of positive habits, growing confidence, and a healthy relationship with their dental care. We know parenting is a juggling act, and every child is different. That’s why we offer compassionate, personalized care that meets your child where they are, whether they’re feeling shy or full of questions.
A healthy smile is a big part of growing up. From that first baby tooth to their first adult molar, we’re here to help guide them and you through each stage with confidence and care.
As a trusted North Vancouver Dentist, our goal is to make sure kids enjoy their visits, feel safe in the chair, and leave with a reason to smile. Whether it’s their first appointment ever or just the first one at our clinic, we’ll make sure it’s a great experience.
Getting Ready for Their First Appointment
Talk and Listen
We’ll greet your child warmly, explain everything we’re going to do in simple, kid friendly language, and introduce them to some of the tools we use. Nothing scary, just curious little explorers getting to know their dentist.
Gently Examine
With a soft touch, we’ll examine your child’s gums, teeth, tongue, and overall oral health. If we spot anything that needs a little extra attention, we’ll explain what to look out for and how to care for it at home.
Educate
We’ll ask your child to show us how they brush and guide them gently on how to make brushing even better. We’re always happy to answer questions from both kids and parents to help you feel informed and confident.

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.
Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.
Frequently Asked Questions
We recommend booking your child’s first appointment by age 1, or within 6 months of their first tooth coming in. If you have any concerns before then, don’t wait. Early checkups can prevent bigger issues down the road.
Baby teeth play a crucial role in guiding adult teeth into place and supporting speech, chewing, and facial development. If baby teeth aren’t healthy, it can impact your child’s confidence, eating habits, and even how they grow.
Every child is different, but most first visits take about one hour. If your little one needs more time to settle in or ask questions, we’re happy to go at their pace.
Just like adults, children should visit the dentist every 6 months for a cleaning and checkup. If they’re experiencing discomfort or you notice changes in their behaviour like avoiding certain foods, come in sooner.
Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile. Inflammation or bleeding can be signs of early gum disease, even in children. We’ll teach your child how to care for their gums at home in a way that’s easy to remember and fun to follow.
